Alvin Dean Alford Jr., 79, a native of Magnolia, Miss., and a resident of St. Amant, died Monday, March 16, 2009. He was a retired railroad switchman with the Kansas City Southern Railroad and a veteran of the U.S. Marines Corps. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Thursday, Mar. 19, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Gautreaux. Interment in Holy Rosary Cemetery, St. Amant. Survived by his wife, Betty Lingoni Alford; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Alvin "Dean" Alford III, Arthur Joseph "Joey" and Cindy Alford, Alan "David" and Wren Alford, Aaron James "Jimmy" and Linda Alford, and Adam Daniel "Danny" and Patty Alford; two sisters, Doris Mae "Dottie" Smith and Linda Alford Flack; grandchildren, Lori Alford Taylor, Brandy Alford Blankenship, Tegan Alford Graham, Morgan, Travis, Jessica, Jimmy Jr., Ericka and Chelcie Alford; great-grandchildren, Ryley Gonzales, Austen, Ashton and Aiden Taylor; stepgrandchildren, Jonathan and Marty Walker, Mandy, Jason and Wendy Thomas; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley, Allison and Amanda Walker, Jada, Jolee and Jaci Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin D. and Willie Mae Alford. Pallbearers will be Travis Alford, Jimmy Alford Jr., Anthony Blankenship, Cole Gonzales, Kyle Flack and Mark Flack. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Necaise and Rayford Brewer. He was a member of St. John Lodge 153, F&AM, and the Jerusalem Temple Clown Unit and spent a lot of time entertaining disabled children with the clown unit. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice or St. Vincent de Paul Society, Baton Rouge. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Vincent V. Tumminello Jr., Dr. Joel D. Silverberg, Dr. Ronald L. Boudreaux and St. Joseph Hospice and staff.
