Audrey Johnson Obituary

Luke 7:50, "And He said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace." Audrey Barras Johnson, 83, was surrounded by her family when she went home peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Audrey, originally from Port Arthur, Texas resided in Baton Rouge for the last 48 years. She is survived by her beloved children, Luc Johnson, Leah Weber and husband Danny, Lori Gray, Marcus Johnson and wife Mary, and three cherished grandchildren, Emily Gray, Danielle Weber, and Landon Weber. She is preceded in death by her husband Buddy (Bob) Johnson; son, Matthew Johnson; parents, Luc Barras and Maude Peltier Barras; siblings, Gerald Barras, Genevieve Bailey, Delores Garsee, and Iris Foreman. Audrey had a host of nieces and nephews including one special niece dear to her heart, Donna Bailey. Audrey always felt truly blessed to be surrounded by many loyal, loving and kind friends. Audrey was not only a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend; she was also a heroine to many and selflessly devoted her life to helping others. She had undeniable faith, courage and strength. Her sense of humor and love of life radiated in spite of the significant life altering events she endured. She will be dearly missed. Audrey's dear and close friend, Rev. Donald V. Blanchard, will preside over a Memorial Mass on Monday, August 31st, at 1:00 PM at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 2121 North Sherwood Forest Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM. The family would like to sincerely thank Clarity Hospice for the compassionate care that they provided. In lieu of flowers, please support your favorite charity in her honor. Ms. Johnson displayed extraordinary strength and courage when suddenly dealt a life of extreme pain and responsibility. I didn't know her at the time her husband was severely injured, but my family grieved as if he were a member of our immediate family, perhaps because he was coming into our living room each day at a time when families still gathered around the one television in the home to watch the news. I later got the opportunity to meet Ms. Johnson. It was amazing to see soo much strength, delight and courage in a person who had lost sooo much. My heart goes out to her family. You have lost a jewel, but i'm certain we will all be reunited.

Audrey and I were long time friends, beginning in our early adult years. We stayed in touch, and talked at least once a year, our last conversation being about a year ago. Audrey's obituary said it all. She was one in a million. My condolences to her family. I know she loved you all. She told me so. Rest in peace, dear friend. You've earned your wings.
