Died at her son's home in Prairieville at 3:36 AM , October 19, 2017. She was born in Dutchtown, LA, on March 7, 1921. She was 96 years old. Audrey was the retired owner and operator of Audrey's Beauty Shop in Gonzales for 42 years. She was a member of the American Business Women's Assn., the VFW auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxillary. She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Byron C. and Dot Braud, of Sparta, Tennessee, and Dwight "Dody" and Judy Braud, of Prairieville, a sister and best friend, Beverly Collins and family friend, Joe Schapatone, also of Prairievillle. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and spouses, Dana and Dowell Brenn, Lana and Bob Foster, Dee Ann and Carey Tassin, Leah and Chance Millet, Penny and Charlie Stone, and Dwight J. "Little Dody" Braud, Jr. and his wife Chantelle; 14 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Audrey is also survived by 3 step children and spouses, June Delaune, Donna and Brad Diez, and Dwight G. and Paige Braud; step- grandchildren Tressie Pipsair, Trent Delaune, Trudy Madere, Tricia Hymel, Hal Delaune, Kelly Alexander, Cody, Rhett and Damon King, Brandi Kelly, Jodi Molliere, Kati Braud, Ray and Eddie Corban; 23 step great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; and a dear friend and neighbor, Barbara Gautreaux, and numerous nieces and nephews. Audrey was a life long member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville, where she was a very active member of the Ladies Altar Society, their hospitality group, making numerous quilts for the fair auction, and loads of pralines and cakes for the fair! She was on the cookbook committee that authored St. John's Cookbook for it's 75 year anniversary! She loved cooking for her large family, and her delicious holiday meals were enjoyed by all!! Audrey was preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, and father of her children, Wilbert "Gill" Braud; parents, Dewey and Nolia Smith, 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Addis Smith, and R.D. and Joyce Smith. Also preceded in death by her second husband of 19 years, Joseph A. (J.A.) Braud; a brother-in-law, L.D. Collins; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Geismar Wilson; step-grandsons, Chookie King and Curtis Corban; and step-son-in-law, Harold Delaune.. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, conducted by Fr. Gerald Martin. Pallbearers will be Hayden Melancon, Carey Tassin, Darrien Bercegeay, Justin Braud, Dowell Brenn, and Anthony Babin; Honorary Pallbearer, Joe Schapatone. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite charity, or to St. John the Evangelist Building Fund. Thanks to the staff of Council on Aging for their years of help; and to New Century Hospice for their help in her care.
