Billie Fenton Obituary

Billie Loit Fenton will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and an exceptionally generous and caring person who took a sincere interest in everyone she met. She had a great sense of humor combined with a beautiful smile which endeared her to many. Billie died in Seal Beach, California, January 7, 2018, after a short illness. She was 83 years old. Billie enjoyed a 17-year career as a department assistant at The RAND Corp. in Santa Monica, where she made many friends. She moved with her husband, the Rev. Fred Fenton, to Baton Rouge in 1994, when he was called to be rector of historic St. James Episcopal Church. Billie loved the wonderful people she met at the church and in this community. A lifelong Californian, she embraced Southern culture with enthusiasm. The Fenton's spent 10 years in Baton Rouge before returning to California in 2004. Billie was a tireless worker in support of social causes in which she believed and ready to put herself on the line in defense of human rights, joining her husband in the 1965 Selma Civil Rights March. She loved being a priest's wife and will be remembered here for her warm welcome at parties which she hosted in the couple's Woodstone Estates home. Billie was an avid reader of The Advocate and never missed a Smiley Anders column. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, who lives in Seal Beach; three sons, David, James, and Mark; and three granddaughters, Perry, Sophia, and Stella. Donations in her memory may be made to St. James Church or to Partners in Health. Services will be private.
