Carlysle passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Our Lake of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge at the age of 93. He was a native and resident of Plaquemine. Carlysle was Navy Veteran that fought in World War II. He was Co-owner of the All American Sporting Goods Store in Baton Rouge and sold sporting goods all over the states of Louisiana and Texas. After retiring from his store he became a detective with the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Department and also worked as the assistant coroner for many years. During that time he piloted planes and helicopters to transport elected parish officials. For the last 30 years, Carlysle had his own cabinet, door and stain glass shop. He had many hobbies but he really loved to create oil paintings, fish and hunt. Visiting will be at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plaquemine on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 10 a.m. until Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m., celebrated by Rev. Jason Palermo. Entombment of ashes will be at a later date in Grace Memorial Park Mausoleum. Carlysle is survived by his wife, Judy Strahorn Marix of Plaquemine; daughter, Darlene M. Hillman and husband Michael of Lafayette; four step-children, Renee Clark of Plaquemine, Hal Roy and wife Barbara of Prairieville, Steve Roy and wife Stephanie of Queen Creek, AZ, and Jason Dupree and wife DeeDee of Central; two daughters-in-law, Linda Marix Pantepinto of Plaquemine and Kay Z. Marix of Lafayette; two sisters-in-law, Barbara "Bobbi" Bourgeois Graham and husband Jerry and Marlene Bourgeois Benoit; grandchildren, Michael Marix and wife Angele, Mandy M. Taylor, Cort Marix and wife Bethany, Grant Hillman and wife Ashley, Stephan Hillman and wife Jennifer, Matt Hillman and fiancé Lainey Martin, Carlysle Jake Marix, Kally Sere and husband Jared; six step-grandchildren, Travis Clark, Christopher Roy, Matthew Roy, Bradley Roy, Heather Roy, Taylor Creighton; and 16 great grandchildren. Carlysle was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Bourgeois Marix; parents, Gervais and Josephine Rills Marix, two sons, C. Dwight Marix and Daryl J. Marix; siblings, Gervais Marix Jr., Joseph Marix, Evelyn Marix, Maggie Marix and Geraldine Marix, Ida LeBlanc, Vivian Kelley, Vera Ramirez and Elmire Cafferal; brothers-in-law, Alfred "Buddy" Bourgeois and wife Barbara, and Will Benoit. Carlysle served on Iberville Parish School Board for many years, he was member of the Knights of Columbus and Booster Club for Plaquemine High, and was very involved in helping the youth in Iberville Parish Carlsyle was an American League Baseball Coach who in 1948 lead his American Legion Junior Baseball team to win the State Championship title, with no team winning the title since. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael, Cort and Jake Marix, Grant, Stephan and Matt Hillman, Travis Clark, Christopher, Matthew, and Bradley Roy, and Taylor Creighton and 1948 State American Legion Junior Baseball Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to or the Disabled Veterans Association. Carlysle will be missed by his family and friends but not his mischievous pranks.
