Cecil Edward Bennett, born on November 8, 1928 died peacefully on February 17, 2018 at the age of 89. He was born in Greenwood, MS, grew up in Vaiden, MS and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. Cecil was a Mississippi State College graduate of 1955 and remained a lifetime "bulldog". He retired from Sears after 37 years. There was not a craftsman tool he did not know about. Cecil was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps as part of Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic. He is survived by his daughter, Susan C. Bennett Lillie and husband Thomas; son, Perry D. Bennett; four grandchildren, Jennifer B. Wells and husband William, Amy E. Bennett, Paul C. Bennett, and Nicholas T. Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Avery M. Wells and Carson B. Wells; two loving brothers, Simpson Bennett and wife Mary Jo of Jackson, MS. and Benjamin Bennett and wife Dot of Tylertown, MS.; one loving sister, Sara Frances Oldham of Richland, MS.; sister-in-law, Dean Fondren of Arlington, TN.; his life time friends, Cecil Nations of Forest, MS., Louise and Jim Bradley, Ethelyn and James Friloux, Libby and Riley Jones, Shirley Pourciau, George Thomas all of Baton Rouge, and Mary and John Green of Pensacola, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. Cecil is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene M. Williams Bennett; parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Bennett of Vaiden, MS.; two brothers, infant brother Cyrus Bennett of Vaiden, MS. and Oliver Otis Bennett Jr. of Sabetha, Kansas; sister, Sylvia Dale Oldham of Greenville, MS., two sons, Timothy W. Bennett and Gary T. Bennett; and grandson, Christopher D. Bennett. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 12:00 pm until funeral services at 1:00 pm conducted by Reverend Barrett Ingram. Burial will immediately follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Perry Bennett, Paul Bennett, Nicholas Bennett, William Wells, Carson Wells and Tom McNeeley. Honorary pallbearer will be George Thomas. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, Mississippi.
