Charles Walter "Chuck" Atkinson, resident of French Settlement and former resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Harvest Manor Nursing Home in Denham Springs at the age of 84. Chuck was born in Baton Rouge on January 12, 1930 to the late Perkins "Perk" Henry and Merle Kennard Atkinson. He was a longtime member of Healing Place Church. Chuck served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953, and worked in furniture sales in the Baton Rouge area for over 40 years. He enjoyed people, and he loved his church and family very much. His family includes his wife of 60 years, the late Bernadine Mattingly Atkinson; son, Kevin L. Atkinson and his wife Connie; granddaughters, Jennifer Atkinson Brommer and her husband Mark, Ashley Atkinson Howle and her husband Aaron, and the late Andrea Atkinson Head and her surviving husband, Russell Scott Head; great grandchildren, Bradley Jordan and Kennedi Ashlyn Head, Alexander Ethan Howle, and Alexis Raine Brommer; sisters, Clarice Ballard, and Ruth Ash and her husband Bob; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Hospice Compassus for their care. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 9:00am until the funeral service begins at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
