Darwin E. Givens, 78, died Friday, May 3, 2013 at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond following a brief illness. Born August 14, 1934 in Sunny Hill, LA and was a graduate of Spring Creek High School. He was a 33 year deputy of Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, plumber, and backhoe operator extraordinaire. Survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Donnie Mae Strickland Givens; children and spouses, Renee' and Paul Melancon, RoxAnne and Perry Williams, Darin and Donna Givens; siblings, Lenora Blades, Eugenia Brown and Danny Givens; grandchildren, Glen, Emily and Luke Melancon, Audie, Haileigh, Austin, Erik and Hannah Williams, Ethan, Payton and Darah Givens; great-grandchildren, Audie J. and Zoë Williams. Preceded in death by his parents, Audice and Lelia Givens and sister, Patsy McCarthy. His boisterous laugh and hardworking spirit will be greatly missed. Visitation at Spring Creek Baptist Church from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and from 8:30 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Services conducted by Dr. Danny Smith.
