A native of Shreveport and resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 8:15 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at OLOL. He was 63, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who was the founder and Bishop of Charity Christian Center Church. Visiting at Charity Christian Center on Friday, Aug. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. conducted by Dr. Phillip Goudeaux. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge. Survivors include his wife, Pastor Linda Bradford; father, James Jefferson, Sr.; daughters, Keuna McGruder (Edward), LaKesa Dixon (Katrell) and Shaneka Burnett (Joel); son, Jason DeWayne Wheeler; sisters, Joyce Jones-Barlow, Pearl Gray, Dorothy Sue Jordan and Chesby Lynn Wyatt; and 8 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Flourney; brothers, Leonard Wheeler and David Wheeler; maternal grandpaents, George & Anna Bradford; paternal grandparents, Willie & Ruby Pearl Jefferson.
