Dorothy Candee Davidson Mills was born November 25, 1916 to William Paul and Jess Archer Davidson, and spent her early years in Georgetown, Tx. Dorothy was retired from a distinguished career with the Texas Education Agency. She retired as Associate Commissioner, Department of General Education. She received a BA from Southwestern University, Masters from University of Texas, and an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Southwestern University. Mrs. Mills was a dedicated educator, a hard worker and an eager learner. She was intellectually very curious, with an unmatched sense of humor, wit and love for life. She died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Monday, April 22, 2013 at age 96. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Shannon Mills, Sr., her parents, William Paul and Jess Archer Davidson, her sister, Mary Josephine Wheeler, and brother-in-law, Dr. Howard Pleas Wheeler. She is survived by her step children, Donald Mills, Jr., Eureka Springs, AR; Melinda Mills White and husband Mac of Zachary, LA, and Rev. Steven Mills and wife Kath of Zachary, LA. Grandchildren include Erin Appeldorn and husband, Brandon of Fayetteville, AR, Eric Mills and wife Susan of Rogers, AR, Rebecca Silman, husband, Campbell, Meredith Lampton and husband Will, Rachel Unglesby and husband Trey, all of Zachary, La, Jacob Mills and wife Kim of Arusha, Tanzania, Bethlehem Mitchell and husband Alan, and John Mills, both of Centralia, MO. Also survived by 14 great grandchildren. Other survivors are nieces, Sarah Wheeler Brinton of Pennsylvania, Paula Wheeler Doerfler and husband John of Georgetown, Tx, Ann Wheeler Jenny and husband, Dave of Gatesville, TX, and nephew Howard Wheeler and wife Rhonda of Elm Mott, TX, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Arrangements are through Bellmead Funeral Home of Waco with Graveside services and burial at 11:00 on Friday, April 26, 2013 at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown, Tx. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Southwestern University of Georgetown, Homestead Heritage Ministries in Elm Mott, TX, or Plains Presbyterian Church for Youth or Lighthouse Ministries, of Zachary, LA.
