"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 25, 2013, at the age of 84. He was born in Jayess, MS, and resided in Baton Rouge. He was retired from Delta Southern where he was a welder/foreman. He was also a greeter at First Baptist Church and Crosspoint Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 12 PM until the service at 2 PM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Christine Brewer Powell; three daughters, Starlyn Summers and husband, Layne Summers, Clella Kelly and husband, Joe Kelly, and Dana Guarisco and husband, Mike Guarisco; six grandchildren, Brandi Summers, Eric Altazin, Jennifer Altazin, Brandon Guarisco, Chase Guarisco, and Kellan Guarisco; three great grandchildren, Breanna Altazin, Braxtyn Altazin, and Dylan Herring; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar B. Powell and Juanita Day Powell; three brothers, Kelly Mac Powell, Cary Bernell Powell, and Gerald Dean Powell; and one sister, June Powell Bolton. Pallbearers will be Layne Summers, Eric Altazin, Brandon Guarisco, Chase Guarisco, Kellan Guarisco, and Lee Ayo. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Carpenter House and their care givers and also, Durward's sisters-in-law, Linda and Opal, for all your love and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Crosspoint Baptist Church Building Fund 14965 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70817.
