Gordon Jones Obituary

Gordon Lewis Jones, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, is presumed to have been killed Tuesday, April 20, 2010, as the result of a tragic offshore accident. He was 28, born June 26, 1981. Gordon attended St. Aloysius Catholic School, before attending Catholic High School and graduating from there in 1999. Thereafter, he attended and graduated from LSU, where he met his wife, Michelle. Gordon was everyone's friend and enjoyed spending time with his family. In many respects, he was the glue that bound his family together. He was an excellent golfer and played often during his days at Catholic High and LSU, although he readily shifted his time from golf to his family as it continued to grow. One of Gordon's greatest personality traits was his affinity for joke telling, and we will always remember his distinctive, and sometimes obnoxious, laugh. A true testament to Gordon's thoughtfulness and willingness to help others was his reported actions on behalf of his fellow workers immediately before his death. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge, Sunday, April 25, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Ave., Monday, April 26, from 11:30 a.m. until a memorial Mass at 1:30 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Michelle Mummert Jones; a son, Stafford Hess Jones; an unborn son, Maxwell Gordon Jones; mother, Eilleen Kean Jones; father, Keith Dunn Jones; brother, Christopher Keith Jones; sister, Kathleen Jones Goodlife; grandparents, Arnott Lewis and Edwina Jones; and numerous other family members, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandparents, R. Gordon Kean Jr. and Eilleen Murphy Kean. Memorial donations may be made to the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for the Gordon Jones Memorial Fund, 402 N. Fourth St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802, or www.braf.org.

Not sure what to say?

I saw an article about you in our newspaper on the anniversary of the tragedy. I apologize to you and all the families of those who were killed. I didn't consider the lives lost. I was totally focused on the environmental damage from the oil spill. Please forgive me. That has very little importance compared to even one life lost. I am praying for you and your boys. I am also praying for the other families. I've also added all of you to our prayer list at church.

I only knew Gordon for a short time while i interned at the university club of baton rouge. gordon was a person that could see through our culteral differences and always find a way to make a minnesota/mississippi state boy feel at home. I heard of his passing through a mutual friend tonight and i almost had to pull over for a second to collect my thoughts and think of what a great loss humankind has suffered. i will never forget his unavoidable smile and his enthusiasm for life. we have all suffered a tremendous loss and my heart goes out to his wife and family. this makes me think of the times that i have been down on myself and wanted to quit, but i remember there is a much greater purpose to life than what you accomplish and more importantly the impressions you make on others and hopefully enjoy a few smiles together along the way, of which i will always remember gordon for(bad grammar i know, and yes, rednecks come from minnesota too). thank you carl for keeping in touch and reminding me of what great people gordon represents in southern louisiana. i miss you all and know in my heart that gordon is resting peacefully. slip and slide all the way bro!

Michelle,
I am a mother of two small sons, 5 and 3. I cannot imagine the devastation your feeling. After I watched your father and brother in-law on Anderson Cooper 360 I cried. When I saw the pictures of your Husband and family it broke my heart to know your deep loss. My thoughts are with you.

I lost a Son-In-Law, but much, much more than that. He was a great husband to my daughter Michelle, and a great Dad to Stafford. I really would have liked to have seen those two together in about another 20 years. They would have me in stitches, just as they did the last time I saw them together at Stafford's birthday party.

God Bless You Gordon! I am really going to miss you!!!

Keith,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. When I heard of that tragic accident I immediatly began praying for the families of the victims. It hit me really hard when I read Gordon's obituary today. I personally know the loss of a child is the worst pain you will ever endure. I lost my son Jay 13 1/2 years ago at the age of 15 1/2. He would have been 29 years old on June 10. Please know that you and your entire family are in my prayers.

Michelle,
Please know that you and your beautiful children are in my prayers. May the Lord comfort you and give you bring you the peace that only he can give you.
God Bless!

Dear Michelle - Finding any words to express how much you are loved, how heartbroken we are for you and your sons is beyond my ability. What I do know is Our Heavenly Father is beside you, comforting you, and has not abandoned you. Gordon has been called from your physical side, but he with you always. I will see you soon (I hope), but you know I am here for you.

I worked with Gordon on Shell's Brutus production platform a couple of years ago. He was very helpful to me being very willing to share his knowledge and help me out when I needed it. He was indeed a pleasure to work with and I am deeply saddened by his loss. He was definitely a good man and I will miss him.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

All week long my office and I have been praying for you and your family while this horrible tragedy unfolded. Your brother in law, Chris, went to Catholic with my boss and he's been keeping us up with the status of your situation.

Michelle, you do not know me, but I too have a husband working in the oilfield, and this accident is very personal to me. I've been praying to God to give you strength during this time.

I pray for you and your family to find God's strength and love to make it through this very difficult time.

God Bless.
