Harvey Smith Obituary

On Wednesday, December 30, 2015, Harvey Smith, Jr., 91, of Carrollton, Georgia went home to be with the Lord. Services will be held Tuesday, January 5 at Parkview Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 am -11:00 am with the memorial service at 11:00 am. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Harvey was born in Jonesville, Louisiana. After serving in WWII as a ball-turret gunner on B17s with the 3704th Army Air Corps, he attended LSU and made Baton Rouge his home for most of his adult life. Although he worked as a building contractor into his late 80s, Harvey is known first and foremost for his love of the Lord and a servant's heart. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Carol (Cooter), Bud, Tim, and Jeannie; grandchildren, Savannah, Christina, Rhys and Bryn. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Vivian; and brother, Hiram. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Gene Williams Evangelistic Association at: Concern for the World, P.O. Box 673, Millbrook, AL 36054 or www.concernfortheworld.org. The family is asking as a remembrance of Harvey for attendees to wear red, white, and/or blue representing the blood of Christ shed for our salvation, the righteousness we received upon confession and forgiveness, and the sovereignty of God. Additionally, we're showing support for his service to the United States of America.

Dear Carol, Bud, Tim and Jeannie, I am thinking of all of you very much as I just learned of your dad's passing tonight. My heart is with you all at this time and just wanted you to know I would have been there yesterday if I'd learned of his funeral being yesterday before this evening. I hope to see ya'll soon and am thinking of you at this time. He was a remarkable and amazingly energetic man! With sympathy,

Cooter and siblings. I remember your Dad and Mom growing up at Immanuel Baptist Church and then at Cortana. They were an inspiration to me. My parents are also buried at Resthaven. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Your Mom & Dad were always some of my favorite people in church. Coming over to your house to visit with my Mom & Dad (Al & Dorthy Almand). It's always sad to lose them, but just think of all the people waiting for him when he got to Heaven.

Cooter I wanted to let you know how sorry I was to hear of your dad's passing. I have such fond memories of him coaching our girl's softball team--what a great time that was! I still have one of our old black and white team pictures from when we won the city championship. Coach Smith was always so kind and encouraging to all of us. I know he will truly be missed by you all. God Bless you and your family.
