Jerri Lynn DiVincenti Obituary

Jerri Lynn Henley DiVincenti, a native of McComb, MS and a resident of Baton Rouge, lost her 10-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the age of 70. She was a member of the first graduating class of Glen Oaks High School where she wrote the Alma Mater that is still in use today. Jerri then was a 1964 graduate of Louisiana State University and went to receive her Master of Education degree from LSU in 1985. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, one of the earliest members of the LSU Golden Girls, a Ball Captain of the Krewe of Romany in 1994 and a member of Florida Blvd. Baptist Church. A dedicated teacher in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Jerri Lynn retired in 1999 after teaching middle school math, science and gifted students for over 33 years, spending most of her career at Central Middle School. Devoted and committed to the education of youngsters, her passion was teaching, touching the lives of so many children. Throughout the years, she was affectionately known by her students, whom she dedicated her life to, as "Ms. D." Jerri Lynn was also a talented vocalist, pianist and dancer who started performing these talents at a very early age. She had a beautiful voice and regularly performed in school and college musicals and sang in church choirs. She had a love for animals, loved to travel, and had a passion for bright colors and a unique sense of style, but the most important thing to her was the quality time she spent with her family which she adored. She would light up a room with her sparkling blue eyes and her beautiful smile. Jerri Lynn enjoyed boating, being on the water, and the sights and sounds of the ocean. She was an avid LSU fan and she and her husband have been attending games or over 40 years together. With a great sense of humor, she had no problem laughing at herself, and had an upbeat spirit at all times. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother whose sense of style and wit will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 48 years, Philip DiVincenti; daughter, Kimberlyn DiVincenti Denson; son, Michael Lane DiVincenti and wife Bliss; grandchildren, Lucas Johnathan Denson, Bryce Michael DiVincenti and Karah Laine DiVincenti. She is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Elmease Henley. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and resume Thursday from 10 a.m. until funeral service at noon. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Lucas Denson, Todd Denson, Jeremy Miller, Anthony DiVincenti Jr., Anthony "AJ" DiVincenti III and Philip Phistry. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bonnie Thomas and Cheryl Boyette, who have been by her side for years, and Hospice of Baton Rouge for their loving care.
