Kenneth Bernard Obituary

Resident of White Castle, "Ken" was peacefully called to Heaven on June 20, 2018 at the age of 77, surrounded by his wife , family and friends. Survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jeanette LeBlanc Bernard, one son, Kenneth R. Bernard Jr. and wife Carolyne, one grandson, Jack Taylor Bernard, Harvard University, triplet granddaughters, Hayley S., Hannah G. and Hope E. Bernard, of Douglasville, Georgia.. One brother , Taylor S. Bernard, Jr and wife Katherine of Alexandria, La. Originally from Baton Rouge, La, Ken graduated from Barnwell High School in South Carolina, where he was captain of the football team and was the South Carolina State Champion in Low Hurdles. He attended LSU and was a member of the Pershing Rifles and was proud to be on the field the night Billy Cannon made his famous run to beat Ole Miss. He was an avid football fan and was a season ticket holder for the past 33 years. He loved his "Tigers" He was named Leesville Dixie Youth Assoc. baseball Coach of the year in the early 1970's. Ken proudly volunteered to serve his Country as a U.S. Army Combat Engineer in Vietnam and went on to have a distinguished career in the U.S. Army. After retiring from the Army, he went to work with the US Postal Service as a Rural Carrier in Brusly, La., where he was also a longtime member of the Westside Golf Club where his friends knew him as "Mailman and M&M". One of his many passions was playing Guitar and singing with his family band, known as the Babin Boogie Band. He especially loved playing Golf, Hunting , Fishing and spending time with his wife and friends at the Casino. He loved and lived life to the fullest, never met a stranger, and had a smile for everyone. That special smile touched many people. Proceeded in death by his parents, Taylor. S. Bernard Sr. and Grace Bergeron Bernard, brother, Melvin Bernard and Mother-in-law , Inez L. Leblanc. The family would like to thank the VA Medical Center and Hospital , all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff who took special care of him. Medi Star Home Health, Enhance Health Care Service & St. Joseph Hospice and Carpenter House. Being the Special person he was, Ken donated his body to Tulane Medical Center in the hopes of being to help others through training and research. Memorial Services will be held on July 7, 2018 at OLPS Catholic Church in White Castle, La. Meeting with friends and family at 10:00 AM with Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.

I am sorry for your loss. I am the eldest daughter of Kenny's uncle- EJ Bergeron. I remember him letting me stand on his feet to learn to dance. He was very sweet and kind.

Jeanette my thoughts and prayers are with you. We do have great memories of a truly sweet man. Playing Scrabble and others gamès and listening to him sing and play with the band. Oh, and how I remember the night he played match maker. Poor baby he tried. There are so many things that we will remember about Ken. He was one special friend. Now he and Floyd can play music for our Mom s and all the other Angel's. Take care Net, you know your friends are there for you.

I never met Mailman, but my husband talked of him fondly and frequently. My husband, Mike Smith, was a member of Westside Golf Club until he died in November 2015, and he played and visited with Mailman often. Hopefully, they are golfing together again in Heaven.
