Laverne Dixon O'Neal Carpenter, a resident of Central for many years, passed away peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012, in Morgan City. She was born to Ola Terrell and Charles Dixon on August 30, 1929 in Montgomery, LA. A devoted Christian who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she was a long-time member of Zoar Baptist Church, Lydia Sunday School Class, Young-at-Heart and Senior Adult Choir. She spent many days visiting residents of local nursing homes. Survivors include sons, Darrell O'Neal (Janelle) of Belle River and Brian O'Neal of Central; grandchildren, Marshall O'Neal (Kristin) of Plaquemine and Tyler O'Neal of Ruidoso, NM; and great-granddaughter, Lynnlee O'Neal. She is also survived by sisters, Geneva Starks of Raleigh, NC and Veronica Merrett of Bossier City, brother, Kees Dixon (Billy) of Bossier City, and sister-in-law, Maudie Dixon of Shreveport. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Wilmer and Lloyd Dixon, brother-in-law Dr. Guy Starks, sister-in-law Helen Dixon and her loving cat Dahlin. The family followed her life-long wish and donated her body to the LSU Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 3 at Zoar Baptist Church in Central. Visitation will be at 1:00, and service at 2:00. Memorial donations may be made to Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Special thanks to Drs. Sherlyn Bell and Maryellon Allen and the staff at Morgan City Health Care for their loving care. Mama, we love and miss you.
