Lolalisa DeCarlo King was born on October 30, 1960 in Baton Rouge, LA to the marriage of Mr. Montgomery Wordsworth King and his wife the former Katie Odella Gertrude Hull. She was baptized and attended Mount Zion First Baptist Church into young adulthood. She entered paradise on June12, 2017. She will be remembered as a beautiful and loving child that became an adoring and dedicated mother to her surviving son, David Kent Clark, III of Detroit, MI. She was baptized and attended Mount Zion First Baptist Church into young adulthood. She was a dedicated scholar at Baker Senior High. She pursued a career in architecture at Southern University, under the supervision of Henry L. Thurman. She flourished in her studies and became the third woman to graduate with a Bachelor of Architecture from her alma mater. She remained loyal to Southern University as a member of the Southern University National Alumni Federation. She earned an MBA in Finance & Investment Banking from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and became one of the first one hundred African American women to be licensed as an architect in the United States, the first in North Carolina. She would recruit and train her own staff, while designing and leading numerous projects and teaching at North Carolina A&T University. Her practice eventually covered eleven southeastern states, including but not limited to: Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. She relocated to Orlando, FL and oversaw the energy-efficient replacement of the energy-saving Multi-User Flight Information Display System (MUFIDS) at the Orlando International Airport. In late 2008, Lolalisa was relocated to Houston, TX, where she resided until her untimely death. Architect for Life, PC, her firm, worked with several municipalities and private corporations in implementing green projects. Her passion for professionalism, integrity and helping her community will live on. Lolalisa is survived by her son, David III, her mother, Katie, a brother, Thomas and a host of family, friends, and classmates. All are invited to participate in her Baton Rouge Memorial Service on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 1414 Sora Ave. Visitation begins at 5pm, Ivy Beyond the Wall for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. begins at 6pm and the Service will begin immediately following at 6:30pm, with Rev. To the family of "Ms. Architect for Life" my dear friend, LolaLisa. In the word it is written that Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." I know at this moment joy seems unthinkable, but just trust and believe that the comforter will sustain you. LolaLisa was a colleague who became a friend. We shared many contracting discussions that would some how find their way to NC A&T (my Alma Mater) and Southern. I will miss her just as I you know will, but I am comforted in knowing that she is at rest. No more negotiations or preparing proposals, she is with the ultimate King of Kings. Rest in peace my friend. James Harper, Jr., Director, Office of Acquisition Management, Federal Transit Administration, Washington, DC.

Lolalisa, words cannot express my thoughts regarding your transition from this realm of life. When Deya called me crying to tell me about your passing, I almost went into shock!!!
It is still very difficult to believe that you are gone, especially since you had such a bright future ahead of you.
You are irreplaceable sister, and all I can say to your family and friends is, remember, and cherish the time that we had with her on this side of life.

Lolalisa D. King was more than just a cousin to me. She was a shining example of everything a confident, industrious, intelligent, spiritual and fun loving woman should be. I could write a book about her. Even though her schedule was always packed with meetings and new projects, she always managed to find time to spend with me, or just have a conversation. Even though we lived in different states, I could always count on that phone call that she always started with, "Hello Cousin!" She was so genuine, I could hear her smiling through the phone.
Recently, my husband and I, and daughter Kristie, moved from the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area to the central valley of California. Lolalisa had a conference to attend in Los Angeles and asked if we could meet, which we did. We had a wonderful weekend and laughed, talked, went to a spa and enjoyed every moment. Everywhere we went, she had the ability to make anyone, no matter what mood they were in, smile or laugh as she flashed that beautiful "Lolalisa smile". She then drove over 300 miles to take me home even though she had to drive back to Los Angeles the next day! We were in the process of making plans to relive this trip later on this year when she was called home to be with The Lord.
"Well it's a highway to heaven, none can walk up there, but the pure in heart." Lolalisa D. King is walking up the King's highway.
