Louis Joseph Decoteau, a native of Gonzales and resident of Prairieville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the age of 72. Louis was a loving father, grandfather, and brother, who enjoyed cooking and special gatherings with his family and friends. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan, who enjoyed watching all sports. Louis retired from Vulcan Materials as a Process Operator after many years of employment. He was a proud veteran having served in the US Army National Guard. Louis is survived by his sons, Chad Decoteau, Craig Decoteau and wife, Sherry, Chet Decoteau; grandchildren, Kayla Bouy and husband, James, Jarrod Decoteau and wife, Loren, Dustin Decoteau; greatgrandchildren, Lucas and Harley Bouy; sisters, Catherine Gautreau and the late husband, Pat and Geneva Kling and late husband, Berlin; brother, C.J. Decoteau and wife, Patty, and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members. Louis is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Decoteau; parents, Clifford and Elma Decoteau; sisters, Ann Elisar and husband, Paul and Juanita Stader. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Ourso Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm with the rosary being said at 8pm. Visitation will resume on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Prairieville Community Cemetery. Jarrod Decoteau, Dustin Decoteau, Layne Gautreau, Brent Gautreau, Daryl Braud, Kermit Braud, Jr. Chase LeBlanc and Brian Melancon will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Gerald Miletello, Dr. Roy Culotta, Dr. Gia Tyson, Dr. Melissa Love, as well as the doctors, staff and director at Clarity Hospice for their continued care and support.
