A native of Sylacauga, Alabama, she was the only child of Thomas Wiley Strickland and Hermie Whigham Strickland. She was born on July 23, 1938 and was 79 years old at the time of her death on August 13, 2017. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority at Howard College (now Samford University) and Auburn University, where she was a home economics education major. At Auburn, she was very active in the Baptist Student Union and she served on the executive council and went around the state speaking on the B.S.U. Peggy was employed by the First Baptist Church of Dania, Florida. She and the late Alfred "Al" James Blanchard were married on August 15, 1962 and she became a resident of Baton Rouge. On August 17, 1963, their only child, Laura Ann was born. Laura has three daughters, Allison Ann Bordelon Endres (husband "D.A." Delbert), Megan Noel, and Lindsay Claire Bordelon. They have given Peggy 3 great-grandchildren and 1 more on the way. Peggy has said that the happiest and the most wonderful time of her life was being a substitute teacher at Broadmoor Middle School. The staff and faculty were so wonderful. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Rosel (Mrs. Joseph A. Blanchard), her wonderful son, Michael A. Blanchard, his lovely wife Kate, their precious daughter Charley, and other nieces and nephews of Al's. Before her declining health prevented her from attending, she was an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. She was so grateful and appreciative of the wonderful and considerate help given to her by Mr. Brent Salter, C.P.A., Mr. James H. Morgan, III, and Mr. Steve Newman. Also to all the medical physicians and their staff for their help and consideration, especially Dr. Joel Silverburg, Dr. Gerald Barber, Dr. Mark Hodges, Dr. Thomas Heigle, Dr. Michael Shannon, and Dr. Robin Shannon. A private service was held as per Peggy's wishes. She was buried with her husband of 46 years at Port Hudson National Cemetery.
