Marjorie Delafosse was called home to be with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on October 2, 2016, at the age of 89. Born on May 22, 1927, in Franklinton, Louisiana, to birth parents Warren and Rebecca Ballard Broadway, Marjorie was adopted at age 4 by her parents Henry and Katie Bruchhaus of Elton, Louisiana. Marjorie loved animals and was a tomboy at heart, from horseback riding, gathering the eggs, and all kinds of games: marbles, jumping rope, and softball. Marjorie graduated from Elton High School in May, 1944, and completed business school at Vincent Business College in Lake Charles. On February 24, 1946, Marjorie married her childhood sweetheart LeRoy Delafosse. He was her life partner and soul mate until his death 68 years later in 2014. Marjorie was a homemaker and mother, raising four children. As a farm wife, she helped LeRoy tend to the joys and rigors of operating 1200 acres in rice, oats, soybeans, hay, and cattle. She loved to read, collect stamps, work crossword and jigsaw puzzles, feed the hummingbirds, and watch her dog "Queen Brownie" play. The center of her life was her love of God and her family. As devout Christians, she and LeRoy were actively involved in numerous community and church activities. In 1959, they operated the first Lutheran Braille Workers (LBW) work center in Louisiana. In 1986, they moved to California where Marjorie served as LeRoy's secretary during their 21 years at LBW headquarters. In 2007, they moved to Zachary, Louisiana, and joined Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. Marjorie is survived by daughters Rebecca Harrington, Jodie Sell, and Carolyn Bellard and husband Larry. She was also Maw Maw to 5 grandchildren and their spouses, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. By the grace of God, the legacy of faith, family, and commitment that she instilled in us will be carried on for generations. Marjorie was in her 70s when she began battling Alzheimer's. She will be dearly missed by all of us who now celebrate that she is at peace and pain free. The family gives many thanks to Katherine Schillings of the Alzheimer's Services of Baton Rouge, In His Care Hospice, Mrs. Helen Mills for her love for mom, and The Butterfly Wing at Baton Rouge General Hospital Mid City. And a special thanks to mom's guardian angel – Gail Johnson! You are our sister in Christ and we will never forget all the love and care you poured out on mom. A memorial service and Celebration of Homecoming will be held on October 22, 2016, at 1:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 11007 Plank Rd, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcomed by Zion Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, or a charity of your choice.
