God called one of his Angels home on December 19, 2016. Mavis was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School and earned a Bachelor's in Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. She retired in her early 50s from AT&T in California, where she worked for 25 years, to return home to Louisiana to care for her father. She was a faithful and dedicated member at Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church during her college years and later years upon her return in 1993. Survived by her daughter, Michelle A. Johnson-Singleton (Gordy); sons, Ken E. Ross and Ben E. Ross; sister, Mildred Hurlock; grandchildren, Alexis N. Ross, Shaun E. Ross, and Jamaree Thornton; and great-grandchildren, Anthony Wills, Autumn Johnson, Shaun Austin Ross, and Mylan Ross. Preceded in death by father, Alex Anderson; mother, Elena Stevenson-Anderson; sister, Ruth LeBlanc; and brothers, Stanley Anderson, Sr. and Morris Anderson. Visitation Saturday, December 31, 2016 9:00 am until religious service at 11:00 am, Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church, 8742 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge, LA. Pastor Clifton Conrad, Sr., officiating. Interment Beech Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson, LA. In lieu of flowers please give to your church or favorite charity.
