Melvin Bailey Bauer passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at his home in Central surrounded by loving family. He was born March 4, 1939, to Leo and Irma Dake Bauer. Melvin is survived by his wife, Janice Cauley Bauer, daughter Marla Persac and her husband Perry, daughter Cherice Werchan and her husband Steve. Two grandsons Mason and Dallas Tranchina and a granddaughter Maci Werchan and a step granddaughter Sydney Persac. Also leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law Clara Bauer Hill and her husband Boyd, a brother and sister-in-law Ronnie and his wife Gail, a sister-in-law Bobbie Voth Bauer, one Aunt Berena Bauer, and a sister-in-law Lillian Cauley Green and her husband Paul, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, a sister Shirley Bauer Varnado, brother Camille and his wife Shirley, and a brother Harvey Bauer. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army and was retired from the Baton Rouge Fire Department. Always ready for a good time Melvin enjoyed many pastimes, including crawfishing and fishing, and was an avid bowler. Anyone who knew Melvin knew that above all he enjoyed talking abut his fishing and bowling. Visitation will be at Zoar Baptist Church, Saturday, August 1st, from 9 am until service times at 12 noon, led by Reverend Glen Miers. Burial at the church cemetery immediately following. Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law Perry and Steve, his two Grandsons, Mason and Dallas, his brother Ronnie and his Nephew Chris Bauer.

Janice, so sorry to hear the sad news. Melvin always had a smile and kind word. He never complained about anything. We enjoyed our time with you both. He will be missed. Our prayers and love are with you.

Janice I was so sorry to hear about Melvin. I have enjoyed knowing you and him from bowling and even though we have not seen each other since right before Metro closed I have missed both of you. I will not be able to make it tomorrow because of previous comments. Again I am sorry for you lose and our prayers with be with you and the family.
