A resident of Amite, he passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at his home. He was born July 20, 1951 in Amite and was 65 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kristi Warren Battles and their son, Nathan Clayton Battles; son, Khodi Sparks; daughter, Marrah Sparks Ransbottom and husband, Jeff; daughter, Autumn Myers and son, Melvin R. Battles, III; grandchildren, Kasen and Ryleigh Ransbottom; sisters, Lynn Bierhuizen and husband, Rudy, Barbara Battles and husband, Horace, Clarice Corkern and husband, Alton, and Martha Sparks and husband, Jackie; mother in law, Estelle Warren Watson and husband, Emmett; sister in law, Karole Traylor and husband, Mark and brother in law, Kyle Warren and fiancé, Tanya Sparks. Preceded in death by his parents, Melvin R. Battles, Sr. and Sallie Ballard Battles; sister, Shirley Battles and father-in-law, W. C. Warren. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9 AM until religious services at 12 Noon Saturday, December 3, 2016. Interment Kedron Cemetery, Amite. I still catch myself wanting to give Melvin a call to see what he’s been doing. I miss my Friend and the good times we had.
