Mignon McVea Obituary

Mignon Peters McVea passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was born in Baton Rouge on February 25, 1947, the daughter of Dr. Stanley J. Peters and Willie Mae Dicharry, both deceased. On August 15, 1968, Mignon married her high school sweetheart, Charles McVea, Jr., also of Baton Rouge. She is survived by her husband, her son, William Charles McVea, and his wife, Elsa Jeanne Phillips McVea, and her two granddaughters, Elsa Mignon (Emma) McVea and Molly Quinn McVea. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Stanly J. Peters, Jr., and his wife, Mary Lorio Peters, of Baton Rouge and her sister, Manya Peters Palfrey, and her husband, Dr. Richard G. Palfrey, of Lafayette, their children and spouses and numerous great nieces and great nephews. She treasured each one of them. Mignon was a graduate of Louisiana State University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She also received a master's degree from the University of South Alabama. Afterwards, she taught special education in the Pascagoula school system. Mignon spent the majority of her adult life living with her husband of 48 years in Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was dearly loved by everyone who ever knew her. Her devotion to her family, her friends and her faith in God will remain an example for all of us for all times. Her joyful spirit survived throughout the last few years as she faced serious illness. It supported her and continues to support those of us who mourn her passing. Mignon Peters McVea lived a beautiful life on earth and we will all be forever grateful that she passed our way. Charlie,
Ben and I were so sad to hear that Mignon has passed away.
We both had such a good time talking to her at Jane Middleton's 95th birthday party.
She hadn't changed a bit, she was the same , sweet Mignon that we have known forever.
With our love,
Allen and Ben

Charlie, our priest at Our Lady of Mercy asked for prayers this morning for Mignon. Just had to send my condolences to you and your family. Wished that we all had not lost touch during those "Bob Dylan" days. Mignon was such a beauty and I know she is with her momma right now. Prayers. Noelle Nevils Lanier
