Richard Joseph Becnel, 63, of Lutcher, LA passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. He was the son of the late Mrs. Rita W. Becnel and the late Joseph H. Becnel of Paulina. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for twenty years, obtaining the rank of First Sergeant before his retirement in 1988. He worked for the State of Louisiana until his second retirement in 2013. His love for his country was only surpassed by his love of family. He was a hard worker who enjoyed life to the fullest and a great provider for his family. In his spare time he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his two grandsons. He is survived by his wife, Masami Yamashiro Becnel; his son Chad Becnel; daughter in law, Annette Becnel; grandsons, Jason and Justin Becnel; siblings, Jerry Becnel, Joycelyn Becnel Accardo, Charlie Becnel, and Rose Becnel; brother in law, Dale Accardo; sister in law, Marion Becnel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date. I met Rick when I started on the Transformation Team in the fall of 2011. That Halloween I dressed as Wednesday Addams and from that day on Rick called me Wednesday. Shortly after I was invited to join the "lunch bunch" and was lucky to call Rick my friend. Even though I didn't know him for very long, I will never forget his kindness, his strong work ethic, and his sense of humor. He will be missed by me, by the "lunch bunch", and by the Transformation Team.

Extending my deepest sympathy to the family of Richard "Rick" Becnel. Rick supervised me for several years in St. James Parish OFS and I had the pleasure of supervising him the pass year in Baton Rouge. We shared fun times and I have missed him for the last 6 months.

Rick, one of the "3 Amigos"and the "Lunch Bunch" will be sorely missed by all. I'll miss our military reminiscences over morning coffee, his insight and his wit. I'll also miss meeting him at the gun show. He spoke highly of his family and was proud that he was a part of them. My sincere condolences to the family.
