Sharon Rogers Obituary

Sharon Swenson Rogers, 66, passed away very early Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013 in San Luis Obispo, California. Sharon was born October 16, 1946 in Wabashaw, Minnesota to the late Bernard and Virgie Swenson. She was their only child. Sharon attended Istrouma High School, where she was a cheerleader, a dramatist, and served as Istrouma's representative in 1963 at Pelican State, where she was voted as the most outstanding District Attorney. Sharon also attended Louisiana State University where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Sharon was a teacher, a counselor, and for a time, a private practice therapist specializing in helping victims of child abuse. She was voted Counselor of the Year for the state of Louisiana. She also served as the president of the Louisiana Counselors Association from 1991-1992. Sharon loved her work, and she excelled at it. Sharon loved people; they were her favorite things. Likewise, people loved Sharon; she captured your heart and always made it feel better. Sharon also loved to dance, arrange flowers, pet puppy dogs, eat oatmeal raisin cookies, and look at or listen to Elvis Presley. She was easy to please. The thing Sharon loved most of all, was her only child, a daughter, Robin Rae Walker. It is with Robin, her husband John and their dog Brawley Belle, that Sharon spent the last two years of her life in sunny, 72 degree California. Sharon remained a joyous spirit until the end of her long, 11 year battle with Alzheimer's. Sharon lived a full life; she saw and did it all. And she did it all with humor, grace, dignity and above all else, kindness. She is greatly missed by all who knew her. She is heaven's treasure now. Her ashes will remain with her one true love, her daughter, Robin.

Cant believe it has been 6 Years without the brightest most sweetest soul to ever walk this planet. I only knew Sharon and her beautiful daughter Robin for a short amount of time while I cared for her at syndey creek but it felt like I had known them my whole life. Sharon was the one person that the minute she would walk into a room she would instantly light up a room. you could not help but have a good time when you were with her. That beautiful smile of hers was contagious aha There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you. I know that you are up there still rocking out to Elvis and dancing your tooshy off. I love and miss you Sharon

Robin,

My heart goes out to you. I have many fond memories of your mother. As we traveled together to various counselor conferences and meetings, she often talked about you. It was so obvious that she loved you dearly. While she's now with the Lord, she'll be in your heart always.

Robin I never got to know you, but went to Istrouma High School with your Mother. I am so sorry to hear of her illness and death. She was a beautiful person inside and out. You are in my prayers as you go through this terrible loss, but hold on to the precious memories of your Mom and focus on how blessed you were to have such a wonderful Mom for so many years. Know that she is healed for all eternity and you will see her again.

Robin, Christen and I will always remember you and your mother with great fondness. We shared a lot during your early childhood years. Your mother was always so proud of you and loved you unconditionally.
Sharon had told me about her health issues, years ago, and she was dealing with everything as best possible. I last saw her almost seven years ago when she attended Catherine's wedding, and she looked wonderful, and I was so glad she had come. We spoke, not too long afterwards, mostly about you. I am happy that the two of you were able to spend those last years together. If there is anything we can do please let me know. I will keep you all in my prayers.
