Sidney Denis Thibodeaux, 70, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010. He was a native of Crowley, born Dec. 4, 1939. He was a resident of Dutchtown and former resident of Thibodaux. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Louise Thibodeaux; daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Randy Shoemaker, Molly and Mark Sanchez, and Wendy and Alan Pesch; sons and daughters-in-law, Col. Jacques and Greta Thibodeaux and Tim and Aimee Thibodeaux; and a sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Pat Carriere. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Alex, Mason, Josh, George, John, William and Catherine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Effie Abshire Thibodeaux; and a sister, Jane Powers. He received a B.A. degree from Tulane University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from LSU. He worked at several LSU Agricultural Experiment Stations and taught at Nicholls State University. He was a member of Sigma Xi. He was known for his love of plants, teaching and reading. It was his desire to be cremated. There will be a visitation at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3625 La. 75, in St. Gabriel, on Friday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m., with a rosary at 9:30 a.m., until a memorial Mass at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Charlie Landry, celebrant. Arrangements will be handled by Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis or St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
