Loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, LeRoy Joseph Bourque, 78, was entrusted to God's loving care on February 19, 2014 at 10:24 a.m. after a long, brave battle with MSA (multiple system atrophy). Born March 12, 1935 in Gonzales at home to parents Acklin Adam, Sr. and Verdith Mary Babin Bourque. Survived by wife of 51 years, Betty Singletary Bourque, two sons Brod Joseph Bourque (Bonny Bowers) of Warner Robins, GA and Wade Adam Bourque (Carolyn Bares) of Gonzales, LA, and two daughters Ina Mary Turner (Brant) of Bentonville, AR and Brandi Rachel McDaniel (Micah) of Austin, TX. Survivors also include two brothers, Harris Bourque (Beatrice Sanchez) and Acklin Bourque, Jr. (Sherry Greene) of Gonzales. LeRoy so loved his ten grandchildren: Elizabeth, Emily, and Joseph Bourque; Austin Gautreau, Adam and Angelle Bourque; Lauren and Logan Turner; and Asa and Seth McDaniel. Upon graduation from LSU as a Mechanical Engineer, he served in the Army and Reserves. While working at Kalvor in N.O., LeRoy earned a LSU BS in Education then a Masters +30 degree at Southeastern Louisiana University. He taught Industrial Arts at Gonzales Middle, was Assistant Principal at East Ascension High and Prairieville Elementary, then served as Principal at Dutchtown Elementary until he retired in 1985. In his retirement, LeRoy opened Scoreboard Too, a trophy and embroidery shop in Gonzales. He enjoyed watercolor painting, calligraphy and his farm life with Betty. Most remembered by his character, integrity, and truthfulness, LeRoy was a man of his word, and loved his life, his family, and God. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23 The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Hospice in His Care and to the special friends who assisted in LeRoy's care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice in His Care, 3233 S. Sherwood Forest Blvd, Ste 102, BR, LA 70816, or St. Jude's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN, or to Carpenter's Chapel United Methodist Church, 41181 Highway 933, Prairieville, LA 70769. Visitation will be at Carpenter's Chapel United Methodist Church, in Prairieville, from 6:00pm until 9:00pm on Friday, February 21, 2014. Visitation will resume at Carpenter's Chapel at 9:30am until funeral service at 10:00am on Saturday, February 22, 2014.
