Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for Claire Rose Trappey Bourque, age 86, who died on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at her residence in Lafayette. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Reverend Msgr. Charles J. Mallet will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be her granddaughters . Giftbearers will be her great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Elizabeth Preis, Janis Cobb and her husband, Bill, and Susan Harper and her husband, Calvin; three sons, Jerome "Chummy" Bourque, Jr. and his wife, Geralyn, Dr. Daniel Bourque and his wife, Jeanine, and Greg Bourque and his wife, Margaret; fifteen grandchildren, Elise Colomb, Meredith Lalonde, Meghan Thibodeaux, Bill Cobb, Brannon Cobb, CeCe Cobb, Calvin Harper, Jr., Douglas Harper, Kathryn Shrader, Robyn B. Merendino, Mary Kathryn Bourque, Jason Bourque, M.D., Stephanie Bourque, Jennifer Bourque and Mary Frances Bourque and eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Randolph Trappey, Jr.; and one sister, Mary Anthony Domingue; and her lifelong companion, Mary Gary Richard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome J. "Jerry" Bourque; her parents Randolph Trappey, Sr. and Ella Boudreaux Trappey; and one brother, Francis Trappey. A native of Jeanerette and a lifelong resident of Lafayette, Claire Rose was a graduate of Lafayette High School in the Class of 1943 and Southwestern Louisiana University in the Class of 1947. She was a teacher and the initial librarian at Our Lady of Fatima School and was instrumental in the development of the first centralized libraries in the Lafayette Parish School System. Her main tenure was at L. J. Alleman and Woodvale Elementary Schools. She retired in 1983 with twenty-nine years of service. In her retirement, she was active in volunteer work at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She was actively involved in substitute teaching at St. Thomas More Catholic High School while all of her fifteen grandchildren were in attendance, affectionately known as "MawMaw". Her hobbies included playing bridge, sewing, crocheting and reading. Pallbearers will be Jerome "Chummy" Bourque, Jason Bourque, M.D., Brannon Cobb, Brendon Shrader, Jonah Lalonde, Garett Thibodeaux, Brian Colomb and Bill Cobb. Honorary Pallbearers will be Justin Merendino, Calvin Harper, Jr. and Douglas Harper. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed Monday at 6:30 P M in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Bourque's name to St. Thomas More High School, 400 E.
