John "Peck" Pecoraro Sr. Obituary
John Pecoraro, Sr. was a native and resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He was born to Anthony T. and Josephine Tremont Pecoraro on November 21, 1928. Surrounded by his family, John peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. As a young boy John delivered newspapers. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1946. After high school John courageously served our country in the United States Navy. He then attended LSU for 3 ½ years and majored in Geology. On February 14, 1953 John married Shirley ""Bootsie"" Cangelosi. John later worked at Johnny's Liquor Store part time while working his full time job, which began in 1953 at the Kaiser Aluminum Plant in Baton Rouge and later transferred to the Gramercy Plant. He was a devoted employee for 38 years there. John later was employed at CII for 18 years. While at CII John was transferred to Robinson, Illinois where he was the president of the new plant that he opened up for a couple of years. John enjoyed his work very much. After retiring at age 69, he continued to do consulting work. John enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, dancing and going to the Casino's. He also had a love for sweets, especially his mom's Italian fig cookies. John enjoyed the various Balls and at one time was a Ball Captain for the Krewe of Mystique. John was a Grand Knight of The Knights of Columbus and a member of The American Legion. He was a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many, many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. John was preceded in death by his 6 brothers and 1 sister. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Bootsie Pecoraro; children, Pamela Robinson and husband Robert ""Bo"", Janie Moran and husband Tyler, John Pecoraro, Jr. and wife Pamela; grandchildren, Heather and husband Kevin, Robby, Brett, Austin, Devin, Emily and husband Sam, Loressa, Halton, Bethany, Hunter, Mackenna, and Destiny; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Lucy, Violet, and Henry. The Pall Bearers are the grandsons and a few nephews. The family wants to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and care givers during the time of his illness. He was strong and courageous for his 85 years of life even until the end as he fought the illness of Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) for eight years. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 6 pm-8 pm. Visiting will resume on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70815 at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon. Father Tom Duhe' will officiate. Interment to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Donations may be to St. Jude, www.stjude.org, , www.diabetes.org, or to any .
