Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014, at a 12:00 PM Catholic Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Hazel D. Menard, the former Hazel Desormeaux, who died at 6:05 PM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Courtyard Manor Assisted Living in Lafayette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Reverend Louis J. Richard, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard, will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Brandi Menard and Robin Trim. Karen Broussard, organist, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", "Be Not Afraid", "Here I Am Lord", and "How Great Thou Art". Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Lou Menard; a son, Robert Wayne Menard and his wife, Janet; four grandchildren, Jason Menard, Robin Trim, Kyle Picard and Dillon Picard; four great grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Primeaux, Ava Duhon and Melba Thibodeaux. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Francis Menard; parents, Ulysse Desormeaux and the former Celina Turner, both natives of Abbeville, Louisiana; four brothers, Sabry Desormeaux, Agnon Desormeaux, Mabry Desormeaux and Avnell Desormeaux; and two sisters, Agnes Trahan and Lula Mae Vincent. Mrs. Menard was born in Milton, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette for sixty four years. She worked with her husband, Robert at their paint shop. Mrs. Menard enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her delicious cabbage rolls. She loved to play pokeno, enjoyed cajun dancing, painting outdoor scenery and collected porcelain dolls. Mrs. Menard was a loving, devoted wife and mother, who will be dearly missed. Pallbearers will be Jason Menard, Shannon Trim, Clarence "T-Boy" Desormeaux, Kyle Picard, Roley Desormeaux and Calvin Vincent. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carroll Desormeaux and Lloyd Bienvenue. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Thursday from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
