Dottie passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the age of 90. She was a native of Philadelphia, PA and a resident of Baton Rouge since 1969, having grown up in Shreveport, La, graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1940, then attended Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches, La. and later graduated from Norton Business College in Shreveport. In 1942 she met and married M/Sgt. Warren G. Allen who was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La. On a mission to Puerto Rico in 1945 his plane crashed due to bad weather and the plane was never found. 1955 brought her marriage to Aubrey S. Cox and a move to Jackson, MS where their daughter was born. Because of a job transfer in 1959, the family moved back to Shreveport and lived until another job transfer to Baton Rouge. They joined Broadmoor Baptist Church and both became very active members. Dottie became an employee at LSU and in 1984 retired as Counselor in the College of Business Administration. During that time she was also Advisor to the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. After retirement Dottie became a volunteer at Southeast Ministries, Inc., a co-operative of 23 churches in the southeast region of Baton Rouge that supports the needy in the area with food. Aubrey and Dottie also enjoyed traveling to see the beauty of our country, Canada and Europe. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene H. and Mattie Montgomery Walters, two brothers, her first husband M/Sgt. Warren G. Allen, and second husband Aubrey S. Cox. She is survived by her daughter Susan C. Knight, and son Dr. Frank W. Allen of Richardson, TX; her grandchildren, Michael L. Knight, Sarah P. Knight, Juliet Allen Waldrop, Greyson M. Allen and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. Until service at 11:00 a.m. Services will be conducted by Dr. Terry E. Ellis and Dr. George Haile. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park under the directions of Rabenhorst Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Dr. Ralph Beadle, Messrs. Randall Cope, James Evans, Fred Nunneleey, Richard Russell, Billy B. Taylor. You may make donations in her memory to Broadmoor Baptist Church or Southeast Ministries, Inc at 10240 Mollylea Dr., Baton Rouge, La 70815.
