William Garland "Billy" Peek Obituary
William Garland "Billy" Peek, born on April 24, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee, to William Winston and Frances Schoggen Peek, passed away at 12:25 pm on Friday, June 6, 2014. Billy spent his formative years in Memphis, Tennessee, and Blytheville, Arkansas, before moving to Baton Rouge with his parents in the mid-1950s. He graduated from Istrouma High School in 1956. He marched in the University of Alabama's Million Dollar Marching Band and then returned to Baton Rouge and graduated from LSU, earning a BA in Business. Billy was in LSU's ROTC Program, then served in the U.S. Army Reserves and U.S. Air Force Reserves. After working his way through LSU, Billy worked for the La. Department of Revenue, then successfully ran his own business, William G. Peek, Bookkeeping and Tax Services for more than 40 years. Billy was an avid chess player, attending tournaments in multiple cities and playing international postal chess. He was a member of Stevendale Baptist Church, where he served in various capacities. He had a great love for music and always liked singing in the church choir. He also had a great sense of humor. Billy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Annell Carraway Peek; son, Cameron Lang Peek and wife Dana Laborde Peek; grandchildren, Meghan Jade, Emily Janine and Arabella Irene Peek; sister-in-law, Ann Lafaye Peek; nephews, Robert Allen Peek, Jr. and Michael Todd Peek; niece, Alice Lafaye Peek Tapper; and numerous great-nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his parents; son, David Wade Peek; and brother, Robert Allen Peek. Visiting hours will be observed at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Sunday, June 8, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting will resume on Monday, June 9, 2014, from 9 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., conducted by Stephen M. Young II. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
