Lt. Col. Phyllis Maul passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at the age of 88. A native of New Washington, Ohio, Phyllis was a resident of New Port Richey, Florida, and Baton Rouge. She graduated from Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years as a nurse. The highlight of her career was caring for the returning POWs of the Vietnam War when they were released. She served her country with distinction all over the world and made many friends wherever she went. Phyllis was an avid golfer and was always ready for a round! She is survived by one sister, Janis, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends Ann Ashbaugh and Ann Moffitt. She is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Edna Maul, and nine brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held August 2, 2014, in New Washington, Ohio, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
