Ellis Fontenot Obituary

Ellis Joseph Fontenot born 3-30-1929 in Whitehall, La., chose 7-24-2014 as his departure date from this life. He lived a full 88 ½ years in good health enjoying his last year to the fullest with his family. He decided it time to join his wife of 67 years, Elsie Marie Fontenot and left us prepared, ready and peacefully. Ellis was a hard worker who got to enjoy his retirement to the very end. He loved hunting, fishing, his grandchildren and great grandchildren and definitely Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, July 28th, at the Sorrento Baptist Church in Sorrento. Viewing and visiting will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with services conducted by Brother Eugene Gullett, his Pastor, immediately following viewing and visitation. He will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. next to his beloved in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales, La. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. A military service is planned at the graveside.Ellis is survived by a son, Brent Joseph and wife, Kim Adkins Fontenot and his daughter in law, Cheryl Kernan Fontenot. He also left behind grandsons, Michael, Seth, Brady, Chet, Andy, Kern, and Brent Fontenot Jr. His only granddaughter, Brooke Fontenot, is leaving on a mission trip to Africa with his blessings and full support. He leaves behind one sister, Dolores Fontenot Bazile of Whitehall, La. Paw Paw enjoyed doing special things with his 11 great grandsons, and 5 great granddaughters. He leaves behind 3 great, great grandchildren also. A WWII Veteran, Seaman First Class, Ellis was proud to be an American and served his county with honors. He retired from Ormet Corporation in Convent, LA and resided in Sorrento, La. until moving in November 2013 next to his son, Stefan, in Gonzales. He lived there until his passing at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Gonzales, La. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Stefan Joseph Fontenot, his parents, Numa and Ozea Dupuy Fontenot, a brother Nelson Fontenot (infant), and a sister, Myrtle Lee Fontenot Blankenship. Special thanks to Dr. John Fraiche, Teisha Dooley, Dr. Morres and the nurses in ICU at St. Elizabeth's for their loving care. He thought the world of you. May he rest in peace. To our God be the Glory.
