Joyce Mae Ferguson was born on April 26, 1934 in Port Allen, Louisiana in West Baton Rouge Parish. She departed this life on July 28, 2014 at 4:25 a.m. in Baton Rouge General Mid-City Hospital. A retired care giver, activist in her community, and member of Mount Everett A.M.E. Church, she sought out opportunities to be of service to others. She worked as an activist making youth aware of the importance of voting and as a Board Member of Baton Rouge YWCA. She served as the director of the laity for various churches for ten years including her beloved Mount Everett. She is survived by her only child, Cheryl A. Hughes, five brothers, two sisters, and their spouses Alexander III and Addrenia Ferguson, Sterling L. Ferguson, Charles and Marie Ferguson, Kenneth and Darnita Ferguson, Joseph Ferguson, Henriette and Ellard Lamb and Lou Edna and Celestan Vaughn, respectively as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Preceded in death by her father Alexander Ferguson Jr., mother Ophelia Woolfolk Ferguson, and eldest sister Mildred Ferguson Picou. Services to be held on August 2, 2014. Viewing - Bethel A.M.E. Church, 1358 South Blvd., Baton Rouge, La. 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Service - Bethel A.M.E. Church, Baton Rouge, La. 11:00 AM to 12:00PM.
