The Guest Book is expired.

Died at home Thursday at the age of 91. She was a fiercely independent, Louisiana-loving mother of two successful children and four grandchildren. Elaine was born in Pineville, the daughter of a railroad employee, and her family moved around the state when she was a child. She spoke fondly of summers living in her family's renovated boxcar home as the bridge maintenance crew her father managed travelled from job to job. Elaine graduated from LSU with a degree in accounting, married and settled down in Baton Rouge, where she lived for the next 65 years. She spent years working for the state Division of Administration as an accountant while raising her son and daughter. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church for the past 60 years. Elaine had been confined to a wheelchair for the past year but it did not stop her from her civic activities. She seldom missed services at the First Baptist Church and made a point of never missing serving food to the homeless. She continued shopping in person at local stores and playing dominoes with her friends up until her final weeks. She refused to let her age or infirmities stop her. Elaine was the daughter of Mitchell and Jennye Labat. She is survived by her son, Roger, and his wife, Alice, of San Ramon, Ca., and four grandchildren, Jennifer Miller and Jeffrey Miller, both of Los Angeles, MacKenzie Perkins of Richmond, Va., and Christian Perkins of Olympia, Wa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, and her daughter, Pamela. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home at 825 Government St. on Sunday, Aug 3, 2014 from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Monday with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
