LAUER, Timothy Wayne ("Cowboy Tim") fell asleep in death Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 2:43 AM at the age of 68 in The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge. His death was the result of brain cancer. Born in Tecumseh, Michigan on February 24, 1946 to Paul Henry Lauer of Oil City, Pennsylvania and Mary Frances Talbert Lauer of Woodlands, Louisiana. Mr. Lauer was retired after 30 years from Delta Air Lines. He has resided in Clinton, Louisiana since 2001. He leaves behind his sister Mrs. Judith Lauer Klein and her husband Richard Lawrence Klein of Milton, Georgia. In addition, he leaves behind two nephews, Alexander Lawrence Klein and wife Brittany Nicole, of Duluth, Georgia, and Dr. Maximilian Joseph Klein and wife Dr. Kelly Anne Cyzeski Klein of Stamford, CT., and one niece, Mrs. Allielee Claire Klein Garner and husband Timothy Jason Garner of Adairsville, GA. Tim also leaves two grandnieces, Harley Jayne Klein and Annalynne Claire Garner, and one newborn grandnephew, Malcolm Lawrence Klein. Tim's former wife of 14 years, Ms. Nancy Anne Cline of Plano, Texas also survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Terrence Patrick Lauer, pharmacist and mud engineer. Tim was a veteran of the Viet Nam war in the service of the US Marine Corps and a current member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High, Class of 1964, and attended LSU one year upon his honorable discharge from the Armed Forces as Sergeant (E-5). He received a National Defense Service Medal: Vietnamese Service Medal w/2*, Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/device; Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Sharp Shooters Badge. During his career with Delta Air Lines he worked in Baton Rouge, Gulfport, MS, Reno, NV, and Dallas, TX. Upon his return to Louisiana, Tim took up woodworking and made fine custom furniture. He enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, fishing, wine tasting, dancing and travel. He was an Altar boy at St. Joseph's Cathedral in his youth, a golf caddy at City Park, and a lifeguard at the YMCA. He remained close to many cousins and cared for his mother until her death in Dec. 2009. He has friends and relatives in the Zachary, Clinton and Baton Rouge. Visitation will take place at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary, 4230 High St., Wednesday , August 13 from 5-7PM, followed by a fond farewell at the T&T Lounge in Zachary, LA Hwy 19, phone 225-654-7902. Final visitation on Thursday, August 14, at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary from 10:30-12:30 AM and service at 12:30 PM , followed at the gravesite at 1:30 PM for burial in the Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mount Pleasant Rd. Zachary, LA. All are invited to wear their cowboy boots and jeans to all events. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Palliative Care Foundation of Baton Rouge, www.palliativecarebr.org.
