A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Freddie Copponex passed away August 18th, 2014, at the Carpenter House. Born July 14, 1930, he was 84 years old. Freddie was a graduate of Catholic High School and attended LSU. He served in the Louisiana National Guard. Freddie was a retired purchasing agent for Allied Chemical and later worked in the same capacity for Fluor Corporation. In 1955, Freddie married his beloved Catherine Decoteau, with whom he raised six children. They were married for 41 years until her passing in 1996. Surviving Freddie are his sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Teri (Roy) Copponex, Gregory and Elaine (Deville) Copponex, Clint Copponex and Missy Perry, and Bart and Teri (Perry) Copponex; daughters and sons-in-law, Charmagne and Paul Sagona, and Sherri and Robert L. Kleinpeter, III; grandchildren,Cody and wife Alyse Copponex, Benjamin and wife Lauren Sagona, Keri Copponex and fiancé William Mullen, Samantha S. and husband Yancy Tiblier; Robert Lee Kleinpeter, IV and fiancée Tiffany Breaux, Drew Copponex, Audrey Copponex, Christian Copponex, Caroline Copponex, and Cameron Copponex; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia C. and Dr. James Hannie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Freddie in death were his wife, Catherine D. Copponex, parents, John J. and Bernadette Keller Copponex, Jr., brother, John J. "Buddy" Copponex, III, sisters, Marjorie C. Wells, Shirley C. Kilgore, Effie C. Hardy, Bernice C. Barry, and Mary Ellen "Noonie" C. Day. Freddie was an avid LSU Tiger football fan, having had the same bloc of season tickets for over 50 years, right above those of best friends Burt and Maxine Helouin. He and "Cat" never missed a home game in their younger days, and passed the tradition on to their children and grandchildren, some who still occupy those same seats today. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Tuesday, August 19th, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 20th, from 8:00 a.m. until services at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Cody Copponex, Benjamin Sagona, Lee Kleinpeter, Drew Copponex, Christian Copponex, and David Helouin. Honorary pallbearer is Cameron Copponex. The family wishes to thank Jason Jerusalem, RN, at OLOL, and the caring staff at St. Joseph Hospice and The Carpenter House. We would also like to thank the employees and regulars at Sammy's Grill for always being a good friend to Freddie. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Carpenter House would be appreciated.
