Adrian J. Lancon, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Terrebonne General Medical Center at the age of 69, after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1940. Mr. Lancon owned and operated Jay's Upholstery Shop for more than 50 years. Many will remember him from the years he spent as an educator teaching at Central Catholic High School, Hanson Memorial in Franklin and Young Memorial Vocational Technical. Adrian taught math, science and environmental science. One of his proudest accomplishments was his teaching career, which offered him the opportunity to serve his students. Adrian loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pop." He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Flavia Verret Lancon, of Morgan City; children, Dr. Ellen Lancon Conner, of Madison, Wis., Dr. John Lancon and wife Julie Armato Lancon, of Jackson, Miss., Catherine Lancon Lawler and husband Dr. Charles Lawler, of Baton Rouge, Glenn Paul Lancon and wife Jamie Rankin Lancon, of Lafayette, and Sarah Lancon, of New Orleans. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored, Allyson and Joseph Connor, Will and Cristina Salaun, Zachary and Jenna Grace Lancon, Thomas, Patrick, Rosie and Rebecca Lawler, Glenn II, George and Gabrielle Lancon and Nicholas, Andy and Molly Gardemal; brother, Jay Lancon and wife Laura, of Thibodaux; godchildren, Kim Lancon Hoyle, of Katy, and Craig Lancon, of Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews. Adrian was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ostina Angeron Lancon; and brother, Gilbert J. Lancon Jr. Pallbearers will be John and Glenn Lancon, Thomas and Patrick Lawler, Joseph Connor, Glenn Lancon II, Roger Thacker and Robert Fonseca. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Lancon, Lyman Wilson, Larry Sampey, Carlo Streva and Valgene Cart. Family and friends gathered on Monday, Aug. 31, at Hargrave Funeral Home, Morgan City, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Morgan City, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Adrian will be laid to rest in Morgan City Cemetery.
