A resident of Zachary, she died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at her niece's home in Zachary. She was 91 and a native of St. Francisville. Visiting at Miller & Daughter Mortuary, Zachary, on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at New St. Luke Baptist Church, St. Francisville, on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. John C. Miller Jr. Interment in the church cemetery. Survived by a brother, the Rev. Roosevelt Wilkerson, of Zachary; and nieces, nephews and friends including the niece with whom she lived, Myrtle R. Minor. Mrs. Jackson was a former longtime resident of Milwaukee for 45 years. After her retirement, she moved to New Orleans. Following Hurricane Katrina, she moved back to her birthplace in St. Francisville. As her health began to fail, she moved to Zachary to live with her niece. As a child, she attended elementary school in West Feliciana Parish. She graduated from McKinley High School, Leland College and Milwaukee Technical Institute for Nurses. Before moving to Milwaukee, she served as an elementary schoolteacher in West Feliciana Parish. During her stay in Milwaukee, she served as a surgical nurse. She also served as grand worthy matron for the State of Wisconsin Order of Eastern Star. Preceded in death by her parents, George and Georgia Wilkerson; husband, Richard Jackson; brother, George Wilkerson; and three sisters, Gertrude W. Romsey, Alma W. Russell and Mattie "Jack" Wilkerson.
