Lester Cooper, 91, a resident of Tickfaw, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was born on Thursday, April 18, 1918, in Meridian. Mr. Cooper served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Surviving are his four nieces, Donna Duplantis, Elaine Soileau, Betty Ray and Katherine Broussard; four nephews, Leroy Cooper, Robert Cooper, Robert Schaff and Richard Cooper; and sister-in-law, Gloria Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donnie Tucker and Jerome Cooper; sister, Theo Schaff; and four brothers, Robert, Jerome, Harold and Wilford Cooper. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Monday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. until funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond.
