A retired domestic worker and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, she died at 11:43 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at her home. She was 91. Quiet time at Desselle Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 31, is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Visiting at Shiloh Baptist Church, 185 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive, on Thursday, April 1, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by Charles T. Smith. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters, Doris Milton, Lorraine T. Boyle, JoAnn Tate, and Bessie and husband Billy Holiday, all of Baton Rouge; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Earl Tate, of Boston, Leslie and Cheryl Tate, Jan Tate, Johnnie and Linda Tate, and John and Teresa Tate, all of Baton Rouge; 21 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Tate; daughter, Dorothy and husband Clyde Williams; sister, Beatrice Welock; granddaughter, Debra William; two grandsons, Leslie Tate Jr. and Tito James; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Tate.
