Edward A. Dufresne Jr., 72, chief judge of the Louisiana 5th Circuit Court of Appeal, passed away Tuesday, Dec, 7, 2010, at The St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was a resident of Luling and a native of New Orleans. He was owner of Jackie Bee Investments and Esperanza Land. He served as St. Charles Parish clerk of court and 29th Judicial District judge, Division D, before being elected to the state appeals court. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy St. Amant Dufresne; four daughters, Debra Vial and husband David Sr., Dana Authement and husband Louis, Denise Hymel and husband James Sr., and Dawn Dawson and husband Michael; 10 grandchildren, David and Dena Vial, Grant, Ross, Dane, Bryce and Ayden Authement, Jimmy and Justin Hymel, and Anna Irene Dawson; and two stepgrandchildren, Monica St. Cyr and Megan Dawson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward August Dufresne Sr. and Irene Ludwig Delahay Dufresne; and in-laws, William and Dorothy St. Amant. Visitation at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville was held on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Friday, Dec. 10, from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. B. Francis, celebrant. Private graveside services will follow in the family cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may made in his honor to the Dufresne Memorial Fund, First American Bank, P.O. Box 550, Vacherie, LA 70090. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of H.C. Alexander Funeral Home in Norco.
