A resident of Baton Rouge, she died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. She was 66 and a native of Plaquemine. Visiting at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 401 S. 22nd St., Baton Rouge, LA 70802, on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. until religious service at noon, conducted by Brother Thomas Jones. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by her daughters, Valorie and husband Ronald Norman, of Gonzales, Tammy and husband Wendell Thomas, Katherine and husband Joseph Williams, and Angela Mitchell, all of Baton Rouge; sons, Joseph III and wife Jessica Mitchell, and Oscar Jr. and wife Delicia Wilbon, all of Baton Rouge; sisters, Sadie Thomas, of Plaquemine, Helena P. Hill, of Oakland, Calif., and Cora Taylor, of Los Angeles; brothers, Kernell Brown, of Oakland, and Louis Jr. and wife Annie Brown, of Plaquemine; 13 grandchildren, Keith, Bianca, Vondretta, Rayfel, De'marcus, Tamar, Ashton, Paris, Tierini, Da'vanta, Ja'Kouri, Atalya and Olivia; 16 great-grandchildren; and nephews, Lester and wife Joyce Thomas, and Christopher B. Thomas. Preceded in death by her parents, Louis Sr. and Louella Brown; daughter, Jeannell Brown; two sisters, Mary and Geraldine; four brothers, Lionel, William, Leadell and Spedale Brown; and nephew, Grelyn Thomas. She graduated from Iberville High School on May 30, 1962. Services entrusted to Desselle Funeral Home, (225) 383-8891.
