He was an avid bike builder, rider and outdoorsman and enjoyed life on False River. He was a lover of life, family and friends and always willing to help others in need. He was 27, a resident of Ventress and a self-employed heavy equipment mechanic. He was a U.S. Army sergeant (E-5) stationed at Fort Hood in the FSC 1221-22 Infantry, Battalion 4 I.D., who served two tours in Iraq as an Abrams tank mechanic and multi-medal winner of the Iraq war. He died Saturday morning, Sept. 3, 2011, in an auto accident in Ventress. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Religious service at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Roads, on Wednesday at 10 a.m., conducted by Monsignor Robert Berggreen. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. Survived by his mother and stepfather, Mary Ewell Witty and Donald G. Witty, of Ventress; father, Thomas E. Mixon, Amite; maternal grandmother, Ruth G. Ewell, Baker; two brothers, Dave H. Mixon and wife Sharon L. Ferrell, of Atlanta, and Dale E. Mixon, of New Orleans; niece, Maddie; and nephew, Graydon. Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Andrea Marie Mixon; maternal grandfather, Dave H. Ewell Jr.; and paternal grandparents, Argie Lee and George Duncan. Pallbearers will be Dave and Dale Mixon, Nick Slubowski, Rex Bowdin, Gabe Marchand, Rusty Hagan, Travis Morgan and J.J. Carey. Sign the guest register at
