Lois Ruth "Ruthie" Dreher Leming died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at her home in Starhill. She was 42. Ruthie was a retired West Feliciana Parish schoolteacher and a friend to all whose faith and courage throughout her cancer fight inspired many. She leaves behind her husband of 21 years, Mike, a Baton Rouge firefighter and decorated Iraq War veteran, and their daughters, Hannah, Claire and Rebekah. Ruthie is also survived by her parents, Ray and Dorothy Dreher, of Starhill; and her brother, Rod Dreher, of Philadelphia, and his family. A lifelong West Feliciana resident, Ruthie was a member of the St. Francisville United Methodist Church. Viewing at the church, 9856 Royal St., St. Francisville, on Sunday Sept. 18, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Viewing resumes at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Jan Holloway Curwick. Burial in Starhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Shelton, Mel Percy, Robert Triche, John Bickham, Danny Leming and David Fournet. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gerald Miletello and his oncology staff at Baton Rouge General Medical Center, and Dr. Tim Lindsey of St. Francisville, for their tireless devotion and care. The family also wishes to express gratitude to God for the privilege of living among such good neighbors, who surrounded Ruthie and her family with love throughout her struggle.
