Vernon Joseph Calvaruso Sr., 72, passed away at home peacefully surrounded by fam- ily on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012. Born Nov. 16, 1939, he was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. He was an avid LSU fan and loved the outdoors. He was also a huge fan of his beloved Cleveland Indians. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Amanda; sons, Vernon Jr. and "Bernie" and Michael and wife Stacy; grandchildren, Joey, Patrick, Kristi, Matthew and Jennifer; great-grandson, Bennett Joseph "Bennie Da Pooh"; sister, Shirley and hus- band Harold Lilly. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Joe S. Calvaruso and Ef- fie B. Calvaruso. He was co- owner of Calvaruso Shell/Mobil Service Station with his father Joe. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and husband. He will be missed dearly. A special thanks to his friends with the City of Baton Rouge Parking Authority for whom he worked with for 15 loyal years and loved everyone there, al- ways coming to work with a smile and details of where he had found some new restaurant with great food. We would also like to thank the fine professionals at Fresenius Medi- cal Care in Prairieville, for all your loving care for the past two years and the numerous doctors and nurses who as- sisted and treated him during his illness. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 17, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 9 a.m. until services at noon. Inter- ment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Calvaruso, Bernie Calvaruso, Joey Calvaruso, Patrick Calvaruso, Wade Lilly, and Judge Carl Guidry. Honor- ary pallbearers are Matthew Cary and Lee Guidry.
