C. Ray Noland, a retired Marine Corps Officer and retired Deputy Director of Veterans affairs, passed away March 3, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. Ray was born September 4, 1933 in Carpenter, Mississippi and was a resident of Walker for 40 years. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Anita Lucas Noland; his sons Richard Lee Lucas III, Mike Spano, and James Hicks and wife Alissa; daughter Lisa Noland Varnado and husband Gerald; his grandchildren Britni Rae, Alyssa, Adam, Madison and Kai'lyn; great granddaughter Sydni Rae; sister Linda Noland Collins and a brother Bobby Noland as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Beatrice Noland, a brother Billy; and a sister Elaine Noland Cook. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday March 6, 2013 from 9am until service time at 12pm. Entombment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, family ask that donations be made to St. Joseph Hospice. Family wishes to thank his nurses Bernice, Brandy and Penny. Also thanks to Dr. Deborah Abernathy and Dr. Leo Blaise.
