Charles Roy Price went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 25th, 2013. A native of Smackover, Arkansas, "Pop" joined the United States Marine Corps on December 9, 1941 just two days after Pearl Harbor. Part of the greatest generation, he was awarded a Bronze Star for Heroic Achievement and a Purple Heart for wounds received in the battle of Saipan. An outstanding soldier, he was cited for "heroic achievement in action against the enemy while serving as a squad leader…and continually exposed himself to enemy fire with utter disregard for his own safety." Discharged on October 20, 1945, he married his sweetheart, Elva Leonard nine days later on October 29th 1945. Following Elva's unexpected death in 1985, Pop remarried Phyllis Ortte Price (our beloved Mimi) and continued as a faithful husband and father for over twenty years during their life together until her passing. His family knew Pop to be a tough and tender father and grandfather and loud in his laughter and praise for his Lord. Charles is survived by his two sons, Daniel Charles Price and wife Yvette of Baton Rouge, LA and Philip Roy Price and wife Carla of Knoxville, TN; Grandchildren: Heath Price and wife Allison of Baton Rouge, LA. Rev. Blake Price and wife Erika of Baton Rouge, LA. Cole Price and wife Mary Elizabeth of Birmingham, LA; Wesley Price of Bradenton, FL; Sarah Price of Atlanta, GA; Joel Price and wife Rebecca of Boulder, CO; Philip Price and wife Katy of Atlanta, GA. Pop also was a great grandfather to nine special great-grandchildren: Daniel, Luke, Tatum, Hannah, David, Leah, Ruth, Townes, and Joy. The family also extends loving thanks to Babs Haynes Price as well as the entire Ortte family of Lafayette, LA for their love and support for Pop for many years. A family burial will take place near Lafayette, LA this weekend conducted by Rev. Blake Price of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Covenant Church at 1700 Lee Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, 70808.
